Home Chain Question Goes To Compute Network Holders

A governance vote on leaving its own chain for Solana began on Oct. 26, 2026, at a decentralized cloud computing network.
Where The Vote Stands
Holders can still vote up to 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026.
Early tallies from Oct. 27 showed near 98% in favor.
Turnout was already above quorum, but the count can still shift. The network under discussion is Akash, a marketplace in which computing power is rented.
Its activity currently runs on akashnet-2, a standalone chain assembled with Cosmos tooling.
Wider Context
Once Solana AKT is live, wallets and exchanges can add it as they see fit. That addition can precede the marketplace move as the steps are independent.
Other infrastructure networks already moved from their own chains to Solana earlier. The team called the route tested for networks like this. Governance can still block the marketplace cutover until just before it takes place.
Once the portal opens, token moves are permanent for any holder.
The Marketplace
The marketplace stays put under this vote for now. Live leases and governance remain on akashnet-2 in the meantime. The marketplace cannot relocate before audits, rehearsals and a separate cutover vote clear.
Setting the cutover point falls to that vote ahead of time. Once cutover is done, fresh deployments would go to Solana instead of the old chain.
The old chain would be retired in stages and then halt eventually.
Providers would upgrade and register again on Solana on their own. Tenants do not lose their deployment files through the move.
Validators stop serving as validators at the halt for good.
The Token Move
The Solana version stays offline until a vote passes and two audits finish. The team will say when when it is set.
AKT would cross over by way of a one-way portal one for one. What gets sent leaves the old chain, which keeps the total unchanged. AKT retains its ticker as well as six decimals.
Transfers through the portal cannot be undone after the transfer is confirmed. A yes outcome would let AKT launch on the Solana chain.
SPL would govern the token, the token standard shared across Solana.
The Case For Solana
The team asked the public for a host chain back on Dec. 15, 2025.
Solana met every hard requirement, as did an Ethereum layer-2 in the review. The team went with Solana and outlined its reasons in a post on Oct. 26, 2026.
It named lower costs under load, no single operator and a base of peer infrastructure networks. Solana would take over the work of the network’s own chain from then on. Validators on Solana would confirm the network’s transactions rather than its own validators.
The Solana Foundation made an offer of engineering and audit support for the move. The team added that the plan does not rest on that help, in its words.
For Holders
-
AKT living on other Cosmos-linked chains has to return to akashnet-2 before using the portal.
-
Only the home chain can supply AKT to the portal, as the team described it.
-
Users who control their own keys connect a Cosmos wallet and choose a Solana address.
-
Nobody needs SOL for the transfer.
-
Exchanges each move customer balances on their own timelines.
-
Console wallets handle the move on their own without extra steps.
Why It Matters
The vote asks holders whether a working network should give up its own chain through their ballots. The result will decide where the compute market is based in the long run.
