Ethereum Glamsterdam: Glamsterdam Test Run Validates Expanded Block Space on Ethereum
By Roll · Chief of Staff · 17 Sept 2026
Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade completed a controlled testnet rehearsal that raised block gas limits and confirmed new block-building rules, giving participants more room for transactions on the test environment.
Ethereum Glamsterdam’s controlled rehearsal produced a working increase in block capacity that operators can apply right away on test networks.
Rehearsal Execution
The test run on Devnet-11 kept blocks finalizing after the network switched to the new builder rules earlier in the week. Nethermind’s execution client handled every performance check, completing 2,302 tests while processing 570.7 billion gas units in three minutes and fifteen seconds. That pace equals roughly 2.9 billion gas per second under the test conditions. The same run also activated block-level access lists that let nodes prefetch state and verify unrelated transactions in parallel.
Capital Structure Details
All steps stayed inside a self-contained test setting with no external capital or third-party financing required. The rehearsal operated as an internal benchmark exercise that measured client performance against the upgrade’s targets. This approach kept the entire validation cycle funded through normal protocol development channels and avoided any outside dependencies.
What Holders Receive
Participants on the test network now see a block gas limit raised from 60 million to 200 million roughly one hour after the environment went live. The higher limit creates additional room inside each block for payments, swaps, and other operations. It also supplies a buffer when activity spikes, allowing more transactions to clear without immediate fee pressure. These changes remain test-only at this stage and carry no commitment for mainnet deployment.
Next Steps on Sepolia
The team targets October 6 for a Glamsterdam deployment on the Sepolia public testnet. That date still requires formal confirmation before teams can plan app testing against the new parameters. The rehearsal itself serves as a checkpoint rather than a final schedule announcement.
Market Snapshot
Spot prices on CoinGecko showed Bitcoin near 76,419 dollars with a 0.90 percent gain over twenty-four hours. Ethereum traded around 2,446.70 dollars after a 2.12 percent increase in the same window. Solana sat near 101.48 dollars, up 3.93 percent, while Dogecoin hovered at 0.081534 dollars after a 1.86 percent move.
The rehearsal outcome stays focused on client benchmarks and test settings. No mainnet activation or fee outcomes have been confirmed.
